Cuteness!

Wonderful Brother Beal in our ward sent Spencer and Skyler bow ties this time, so we took these pictures just before church a few weeks ago:
 

 

 

 

I think the bow tie craze has hit our boys!  So fun!

Spring Break/Seaside

We had a fun/semi-relaxed/semi-crazy Spring Break.  Monday we spent the afternoon/evening in Salem.  Spencer had an eye doctor appointment, then we went and saw some friends while we were down there.  On Tuesday, Wendy came over to help me clean and move stuff around in the house (for my parent's return) and I made dinner for a family in the ward.  Wednesday I took the kids up to Wendy's for the day.  We had fun talking and cleaning at her house.  Thursday, Kylene and her friends threw all the mom's a "mom's party."  Here is the invitation:

The girls planned this for about two weeks prior to the event.  They told us they were planning it for us because "all we ever do is stay inside and work and not have any fun"!  I got a laugh out of that.  It was in my neighbor's driveway and included doing puzzles, an art contest, and playing charades (although we talked our way out of that last one).  I took Kylene and Hailey to the store and they selected cake, frosting, chips, salsa and juice as refreshments.  That morning they made and frosted the cake and wrote "Mom's Rock" on it.  They set up table and chairs and blankets for us to sit on.  It actually was quite fun to sit and relax and visit with some of my neighbors.  The girls are quite the party planners, I must admit!  It turned out great.

On Friday, Kyle took the day off work and we headed to Seaside for the weekend.  I hadn't been to that beach since I was a kid, so we decided to do all the classic tourist things: the beach, the arcade, Tilt-a-whirl, taffy and elephant ears, Pig 'N Pancake, etc.  We all had a great time and it was a nice break from the busyness.

 

 

 

My kids think hotel rooms are the most incredible place on earth.  We could have just gone there and they would have been happy.

 

 

Saturday we spent the day at the beach.  It was a beautiful day, over 70 degrees with very little wind!  The kids loved it, of course.

It was a fun trip.

Sunday following Spring Break was Easter.  The Easter Bunny visited us, then we enjoyed church with our ward, then headed up to Alva & Wendy's for dinner with them and the Clark's and Wendy's mom.  We had an Easter Egg hunt, marshmallow contest (how many marshmallows can you fit in your mouth and say "Fuzzy Bunny" ...It was pretty gross!), and visiting.  Again, it was a beautiful day and we spent most of it outside.  It's so nice to be able to be outside.  And wonderful to be with family.

Children's Museum

In March. we went to the Portland Children's Museum on a school field trip.  Jana, Daniel and Katelyn joined us.

Sweet Katelyn, turned one in April.

Spencer and Skyler's great buddy and cousin, Daniel.  He is four years old, perfectly sandwiched in age by Spencer and Skyler:).

 

Star Wars Party

Spencer & Skyler had a joint Star Wars/Superhero themed party (Spencer wanted Star Wars; Skyler wanted Superheroes, so we combined them.  I think this is the last year I can get away with doing that.)  Most of the Alva Barney family ended up coming to bring Lee & Sam; Jana came with Daniel, Stephanie, and Katelyn, and a couple of neighbor friends came over.  I think it's safe to say they had a blast.

Spencer really wanted to play "Pin the light saber on the Jedi."  I had no idea how I was going to create a Jedi with my artistic skills.  The week before the party, I went to a huge rummage sale they have ever year in Wilsonville.  Look what I found for $2: a Clone Wars Jedi!!  I was so excited.  It worked perfectly.

Skyler really wanted to play musical chairs. (I still haven't figured out where he learned about musical chairs.)  Jana came up with the idea of trying to travel at "warp speed".  So they played musical chairs with the Star Wars theme music in the background.

Present time.

 

 

Spencer loved, loved, loved, his light saber.  He had been begging for a "real one that lights up" for a long time.  After the party, he came over to me and gave me a huge hug and asked, "How can I ever tell you how much I love it?"  He just did!  He was so grateful for it, it was darling.

Again, my incredible artistic skills...here is the light saber cake for Spencer.  (My superman "shield" cake for Skyler didn't even turn out good enough for me to show it.  Yes, it was that bad!)

Oh, wait, I guess I did include it.  Bummer.

We ended with a light saber "duel" in the garage.  I bought these long glow sticks at the dollar store.  The boys were out there for at least half an hour in the total dark hitting each other with them. Oh, the simple life!

 It was a fun and full party. 
After everyone left, Kyle's parent's surprised us by stopping by with gifts for the boys as well.  Fun, fun!

Spencer is 6!

Spencer turned six years old on March 23rd!

We are so thankful for the wonderful example and light Spencer is to our family.  He is very aware of what is right and does his best to always make good choices.  He has lots of love for Andon and is a great friend to Kylene and to Skyler.  He loves any chance he gets to be outside and be with his friends and cousins.  He has become a bow tie kid: Brother Beal, a man in our ward, always wears a bow tie and gave one to Spencer to borrow.  Then he gave him one for Christmas and for his birthday!  Spencer now wears one to church every week!  He sure looks handsome.

Spencer has had a wonderful year in Kindergarten: he is doing so well with reading and math; he can even read the Book of Mormon with only a little help!  He is thrilled to be able to take his own turn to read during family scripture study.  He loves riding his bike and scooter and is starting t-ball for the first time this year.  He loves swimming, even in the bath tub!
