How we love our sweet, communicative Spencer! He always has so much to share and is so good at expressing himself. Here are three hilarious and precious "nuggets" he gave to us in the last month or so.
First:
Our Bishop hands out candy to all the children in the ward every Sunday! (Except Fast Sunday.) It is a LOT of candy! They have to come to his office and shake his hand and then they can choose a piece of candy. I love that they are so comfortable with him and he knows them all so well. (I'm less excited about the candy part.) Well, around Christmas time, he was handing out fruit snacks instead of the typical candy. When Spencer came out of his office, he started talking to one of his favorite people in our ward: Brother Beal. (As an aside: Brother Beal loves all kids and is so good with them, but he seems to have a special affinity for Spencer. And Spencer loves him. They are always "chatting it up" each week and Spencer always has a hug for him. Brother Beal wears bow ties every week and gave Spencer the one he is wearing in the above pictures for Christmas. It is adorable! But, back to the story...)
So, Spencer goes over to Brother Beal and starts talking to him. Brother Beal said, "So the Bishop handed out fruit snacks today, huh? That's almost healthy." Spencer responded: "I know, it just keeps getting badder and badder. Pretty soon he'll be giving out vegetables!"
Now, wouldn't that just be awful?!
Second:
One day before we started doing some school work, I had to finish getting a couple things ready for our project we were doing. The children's books were a mess all over the floor right in front of the bookcase. So I asked Spencer if he would work on putting the books away while I finished getting ready. He went over to the bookcase and started working and instantly got "tired". "Mom, this is too hard. Can you please help me?" I responded that I needed to get the stuff ready for school and that I knew he could do it. He then responded very sweetly: "Mom, is school really more important than service?"
Of course, I went and helped. It's pretty scary when the kids learn manipulation tactics, isn't it?!
And finally:
Today as we drove home from the store, Spencer suddenly asked me (in a serious voice): "Mom, can I ask you a special question?"
"Of course, Spencer."
"You know how you can pray to Heavenly Father anytime and anywhere?"
"Uh-huh."
"Well, can you even pray to him [pause] while you're in the bathroom?"
I assured him Heavenly Father is willing to listen anytime no matter where we are!
